Migrations

Moving sites, apps and mail between providers with minimal downtime.

Moving to a new server or provider is mostly about not forgetting anything. We take stock of what is running, plan the move, and test the new setup before any traffic reaches it.

How a migration runs

  1. Inventory: sites, applications, databases, cron jobs, mail, certificates, DNS.
  2. Plan: order of work, cut-over window and how to roll back.
  3. Build and copy: the new server is set up and data is copied and verified.
  4. Cut-over: DNS is switched with short TTLs prepared in advance.
  5. Clean-up: the old server stays available until everything is confirmed.

Typical cases

  • leaving shared hosting for a managed server;
  • consolidating several old servers;
  • changing provider for cost, location or reliability reasons.
